PASIN RENEWS CALLS FOR WINE SECTOR SUPPORT
Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has renewed his calls for a wine grape grower support package for inland wine regions hit by the global over supply in the wake of a $2 billion government funding package announced for Whyalla steelworks.
Mr Pasin said the inland wine regions were hurting with an oversupply impacting grape prices as industry adjust to meet new global market trends.
“I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to get Labor to show some compassion for what wine grape growers are going through and provide some tangible support to help keep them in business while the industry transitions to meet new global market trends,” Mr Pasin said.
“Trying to survive as a primary producer in the two and half years of State and Federal Labor has felt like death by a thousand cuts.”
“Prime Minister Albanese has bypassed the Riverland today as he flies into Whyalla with a massive funding package for the steelworks. If I was a grape grower pulling up my vines and struggling to pay the bills, I imagine I’d be feeling rightfully angry today.”
“I want to see a productive horticultural sector in the Riverland, not a wasteland of unproductive blocks and lost jobs.”
“Labor is incapable of understanding that when you allow farmers to go broke, regional towns die. From our sheep farmers to our wine grape growers, the Albanese Labor government is destroying Australian agriculture and the towns and regions supported by it,” Mr Pasin said.
