Housing supply could receive a much-needed boost in the Riverland under an elected Coalition Government via the recently announced Housing Infrastructure Program, says Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP.
The Coalition announced the new housing policy earlier this month aimed at boosting housing supply and restoring the Australian dream of home ownership. Mr Pasin said communities such as Loxton could benefit under the Program, fast tracking housing development and unlocking growth in the Riverland.
An elected Coalition Government will commit $5 billion to get new housing projects moving, delivering up to 500,000 homes across the country more quickly through a mixture of grants and concessional loans.
Mr Pasin, who is also the Shadow Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, met with the Loxton Waikerie Council at Sophie Edington Drive which has been identified as a residential growth area.
Significant infrastructure investments will be required to develop the area to the east of Sophie Edington Drive see residential growth opportunities realised. Mr Pasin said that new housing supply constraints in this area could be overcome through the Coalition’s proposed Housing Infrastructure Program.
“By the Federal Government stepping in to help fund critical enabling infrastructure such as wastewater services, roads, and stormwater systems we can unlock housing supply and support the growth of the Riverland, strengthening our regional communities, ensuring they remain great places to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Pasin said.
District Council of Loxton Waikerie Mayor Trevor Norton said the announcement was encouraging news.
"We are thrilled about the possibilities that the Housing Infrastructure Program presents for our community," said Mayor Norton.
"This initiative could accelerate crucial developments and enhance the liveability of our district, providing significant benefits to current and future residents of the Riverland."
"The commitment from the Coalition to invest in housing infrastructure directly supports our vision for growth in Loxton and Waikerie and the wider Riverland area. We are eager to see the development of new residential zones which will help meet the increasing demand for homes”, said Mayor Norton.
